The Crime Situation in Jamaica and Politicians

I understand full that in order for crime to be eradicated that a communal effort has to be made by members of the community and criminal relatives to snuff out the ones that committ these heinous crimes whom they protect.

You cannot fight crime without first becoming and informer but who would want to be labelled an informer? In so informing on criminal one puts their life at risk and police officers cannot be trusted as they too are often on the payroll of members of organised criminal network.

Recent murders left two children shot, one fatally and the mother slain after gun men entered their home about 1 am one night. The community was arguably upset that a young life was lost in order for some egotistical adult to feel satisfaction.

Many members attest to the fact that community leaders and absentee politicians have contributed to escalating crime rates since most youths believe that the government is out of touch with rural area communities. They contest that when young people see authority figures they will be less inclined to engage in criminal activities.

This might not be the answer entirely, we need  a cultural transformation. The notion that every infraction should be paid in blood should be discouraged from our youths mindset. We should deter them from seeking to remedy every situation with violence. They should also be taught that disappointments and dissatisfaction are apart of life. If someone renders a disservice to you then you should learn from that situation. You do not take it as an opportunity to murder than person and his entire family.

I know trying to be peaceful is easier said than done when people get on your nerves and hurt your feelings. You often want to hurt them back as much as they have harmed you. It is quite satisfying to exterminate people that are oppressing you or your family. We sometimes think it is our duty to punish others for the wrongs that they have done to us. We have failed to understand that what a man does to you is his karma and what you recompense onto him : is yours! Retribute onto no man evil for evil but overcome evil with good!
